On Thursday, I saw the Oral Surgeon for a procedure, in which I had a few teeth extracted. I was put under General Anesthesia and the procedure lasted around 25 minutes. This was my first time being put out and did not know what to expect afterwards. When I woke up, the Dental Assistant practically tosses me my Pain Medication script and hurries me over to the recovery room to sit on their couch to relax for a bit while my Dad pulled the car around front. As we were driving home my dad asked me where my discharge instructions were and I told him that all I got after I woke up was my script for Vicodin ES. Dad felt that the doctor should've at least came out to the waiting room and told him "Everything went well, here are some discharge instructions for Michael to take home" basically out lining the Yes/No's and Do's/Dont's of any post op procedure. I can understand that these people are pressed for time and have other patients to tend to, but a first time GA patient such as myself, should have knowledge of what to expect afterwards. It's really not too much to ask for. What really bugged me was that nobody from the office even did a follow up call to see how I'm feeling after the surgery. Do I have the right to be upset here? Should I call the office and voice my displeasure with the whole situation? If any good came out of this whole ordeal was my Dad. If he was not there to help me out I would've been climbing the walls in agony.
